Antelope Valley Outruns Palmdale

The Antelope Valley High and Palmdale boys’ basketball teams like to run. Both teams are athletic and both came into Friday night’s Golden League showdown with identical records.

Something had to give.

Friday night it was the Antelopes who took round one with a 78-74 victory over the Falcons.

Josh Speaks scored 32 points, including 14 in the final quarter, and Roger Price had 20 points and 17 rebounds for Antelope Valley (11-7, 2-1).

The Falcons (10-8, 1-2) led most of the first three quarters but went without a basket for the first four minutes of the fourth quarter.

Price’s follow shot after Speaks missed a free throw gave the Antelopes a 76-66 lead with just under two minutes remaining.

After Antelope Valley missed four consecutive free throws, Palmdale cut the lead to 76-72 with 30 seconds left.

Steven Edwards of Antelope Valley sank two free throws to close it out.

Kerry Yates had 22 points for Palmdale, none in the fourth quarter.
