Beach’s Big Fourth Quarter Carries No. 1 Chaminade

Justin Beach scored eight of his 19 points in the fourth quarter, helping Chaminade High to a 67-55 victory over Notre Dame in a Mission League boys’ basketball game Thursday night at Notre Dame.

Scott Long had 24 points and 11 rebounds for the Eagles (18-1, 7-0 in league play), the top-ranked team in The Times’ regional poll.

Notre Dame (8-11, 1-5) trailed, 49-46, after three quarters but Chaminade pulled away with strong free-throw shooting, making 30 of 39 in the game.

Dante Ward scored 20 points for Notre Dame.

Crespi 71, Alemany 54--Tim McDonough scored 14 points and Pat Casella added 12 for the Celts (10-10, 3-4) in a Mission League victory at Crespi.

Alex Lowe scored 18 points for Alemany (6-13, 0-7).

L.A. Baptist 66, Village Christian 57--Frank Vasquez scored 17 points and Evan Regenstreif had 11 points and 11 rebounds for the Knights (7-11, 2-4) in an Alpha League victory at L.A. Baptist.

Paul Tait scored 20 points for Village Christian (8-12, 4-2).

Loyola 65, St. Francis 57--Richard Fields scored 24 points for St. Francis in a Mission League home game.

Derek La Velle added 14 points for the Golden Knights (9-11, 3-4) in the losing cause.

GIRLS

Ventura 48, San Marcos 30--The Cougars built a 21-6 lead after one quarter and coasted to a Channel League victory at San Marcos.

Kristine Gleisberg had 15 points and 11 rebounds, and Alex Gientke had 10 points and 12 rebounds for Ventura (13-5, 8-2).

Buena 63, Santa Barbara 53--Kelly Greathouse had 17 points and eight rebounds for top-ranked Buena (19-1, 10-0) in a Channel League game at Santa Barbara (9-9, 7-3).

Rio Mesa 63, Oxnard 58--Maribel Ambriz scored nine of her 11 points in the fourth quarter and the Spartans rallied to win a Channel League game at Oxnard.

Carle Kanongata’a scored 23 points for Rio Mesa (10-8, 4-6).

Esmer Martinez scored 18 for Oxnard (5-15, 3-7).

Fillmore 47, Carpinteria 31--Melanie Schrock scored six of her 11 points in the third quarter and the Flashes pulled away in a Tri-Valley League game at Carpinteria.

Carpinteria (7-12, 1-5) led, 21-19, at halftime, but Fillmore outscored the Warriors, 14-4 in the third quarter.

St. Bonaventure 79, Oak Park 46--The Seraphs built a 30-8 lead after one quarter and coasted to a Tri-Valley League victory at St. Bonaventure.

Stacey Howard had 28 points, 15 rebounds and six assists, and Amy Rosario had 23 points and seven steals for the Seraphs (12-7, 5-1), who are tied for first place with Bishop Diego.

Bishop Diego 53, La Reina 36--The Regents held a one-point lead after three quarters but were outscored, 26-8, in the final eight minutes of a Tri-Valley League game at Bishop Diego.

Robin Foster came off the bench to score 10 points for La Reina (8-6, 4-2).

Palmdale 53, Lancaster 29--Vonetta Lanier had 18 points and Jennifer Keating added 14 for the Falcons (11-12, 6-0), who set a Golden League record with their 36th consecutive league victory at Palmdale.

Highland 54, Littlerock 26--Kameelah Purdom had 22 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, and the Bulldogs (14-5, 4-2) trounced the Lobos in a Golden League game at Highland.

St. Anthony 57, St. Genevieve 29--Jasmin Ramirez had six points and 13 rebounds for the Valiants (4-12, 0-6) in a Camino Real League game at St. Genevieve.

Providence 48, Yeshiva 26--Patty Aguirre had 20 points and seven steals for the Pioneers (15-1, 8-0) in a Liberty League game at Providence.
