Project Will Improve Warner Ave. Overpass

Share

A construction project that begins Monday will add traffic lanes to the congested Warner Avenue overpass above the San Diego Freeway.

One new lane will be added in each direction, for a total of three in each direction. The work is intended to improve traffic flow and help merging traffic exit the freeway.

For most of the time, the 10-month project will not greatly disturb traffic flow, said Mark Lewis, city traffic engineer. When necessary, the bridge will be restricted to one lane in each direction. Also, the freeway will be closed periodically overnight, and traffic will be diverted onto streets.

City Council members recently approved a contract for the $2.9-million project. Measure M sales tax revenue and California Department of Transportation funds will pay for the work.
