Comets Too Tough for Monarchs
Cynthia Cooper scored 23 points as the Houston Comets won their 11th consecutive game, routing the Sacramento Monarchs, 75-44, Saturday night at Sacramento before 8,720.
Cooper, the league’s leading scorer, had 11 points as the Comets (16-1) led, 32-13, at the half.
The halftime total by Sacramento (4-12) was a new WNBA low, breaking the mark of 15 set by Phoenix last season against Cleveland.
New York 69, Phoenix 63--Sophia Witherspoon scored a game-high 24 points, including the winning free throw with 49 seconds to play, before 14,655 at Phoenix to lead the Liberty (9-9). Michelle Griffiths scored 14 points for the Mercury (11-4).
Detroit 72, Cleveland 57--Korie Hlede scored 16 points and had 13 rebounds to lead the Shock (9-9) over the Rockers (8-8) at Auburn Hills, Mich., before 8,573.
