A 24-year-old Glendale man was shot and killed in an apparent gang-related shooting in East Los Angeles early Sunday morning, police said.

Manuel Rodriguez was driving east on Whittier Boulevard about 1:50 a.m. when he was attacked near the Indiana Street intersection. A dark car also heading east pulled alongside the driver’s window. Several shots were fired at Rodriguez, hitting him in the head and chest, said Los Angeles sheriff’s Deputy John McBride.

The two passengers in Rodriguez’s car were not injured. They drove Rodriguez to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The attackers had shaved heads, and detectives believe they may be gang members, McBride said. As of Sunday evening, investigators had not determined what prompted the attack, McBride said.
