Alemany has retired the uniform number of girls' basketball player Kelli Kobayashi.

Kobayashi, who wore No. 12, becomes the fifth Indian player to receive the honor.

The two-time All-Valley point guard led Alemany to three Southern Section finals, including last season, when the Indians captured the Division III-AA title and advanced to the state championship game.

Kobayashi, who set a school career record with 240 three-point baskets, has committed to Cal State Los Angeles.


Former Burbank High outfielder Corry Parrot was a 28th-round draft pick of the Dodgers. Parrot was an all-conference selection this season at Pasadena City College.

Jesse Perez, the starting shortstop at Burbank the past two seasons, has applied to transfer to Burroughs under open enrollment.

Former Granada Hills High and The Master's College catcher Heath McElwee has signed a professional contract with Allentown (Pa.) of the Northeast Independent League.

David Escoto has resigned as coach at Burbank. Doug Ferber, recently hired as a teacher at the school, is expected to be chosen as Escoto's replacement. He would be the third baseball coach in the past two years at Burbank.

Moorpark High shortstop-pitcher Wes Rasmussen and Malibu pitcher Josh Birenbaum, both juniors, have been selected players of the year for small schools by the Ventura County Baseball Coaches' Assn.

Rasmussen was 6-1 and batted .424 to help the Musketeers win the Frontier League title. Birenbaum was 5-1 and batted .426 for the league's runners-up.


Scott Hass, a sophomore quarterback at Moorpark High, has registered to attend Chaminade next season, Chaminade Coach and Athletic Director Ed Croson said Friday.


Tahn Hyun, the girls' walk-on coach at Westlake High the past seven years, will not return next season.

Hyun guided the Warriors to a second-place finish in the Marmonte League last season. He never had a team finish lower than third place.

Hyun said school administrators told him he was being replaced by Scott Hansen, Hyun's assistant last season and a teacher at the school.
