Garden Grove Man Arrested in Altercation
A SWAT team was dispatched in Garden Grove on Wednesday to the scene of a domestic dispute in which a man was waving a gun and threatening his wife, police said.
The incident happened just before 8:20 a.m. in the 12400 block of Meade Street, Garden Grove Police Lt. John Woods said.
Woods said that during an argument, Siminic Cosa, 58, brandished a handgun at Solomia Cosa, 54, and threatened to kill her. The couple’s 24-year-old son, Cosmin, took his mother to a neighbor’s house and called police.
When officers arrived, they tried to call the home where the older man had made the threats but got no answer. Police then requested a SWAT team, sought a Romanian translator and began to evacuate nearby homes.
The elder Cosa eventually left the house through the front door while officers were posted at various locations outside. One of the officers tried to order him away from the door, but the man appeared not to understand and went back inside.
An Orange County Sheriff’s Department civilian employee who had responded to the scene reached Cosa by phone after several attempts and persuaded him to exit the home. When Cosa came outside armed with a broomstick, police took him into custody without incident.
Cosa was taken to the Orange County Jail, where he was being held on suspicion of felony spousal abuse and brandishing a firearm, Woods said.
