Cal State Northridge point guard Edneisha Curry was selected Monday to the All-Big Sky Conference team and honored as freshman of the year.
Curry, from Palmdale High, leads the conference with a 17.1 scoring average and has scored more than 20 points nine times. She also leads the conference with 63 three-point baskets, a Northridge record.
Cal State Sacramento guard Julie Wastell, a junior from Newbury Park High, was All-Big Sky for the second year in a row. Northridge senior guard Tammie Mills was honorable mention.
Injury report: Cal State Northridge point guard Lucky Grundy sprained his left ankle Monday at practice and is questionable for the Matadors’ first-round Big Sky tournament game Thursday against Eastern Washington.
Grundy, a senior, averages 6.8 points. He leads the Matadors with 4.5 assists per game and a free-throw percentage of 82.4. Grundy is on crutches and Coach Bobby Braswell said his condition will be evaluated today.
Trenton Cross and Greg Minor, normally shooting guards, will play the point if Grundy is out.
Northridge commitments: Third baseman Brent Egan and outfielder Kevin Mellinger of Oxnard College have made commitments to attend Cal State Northridge. Both are sophomores and graduated from Royal High.
Mellinger is batting .370 and Egan, who was drafted in the 15th round by the Philadelphia Phillies out of high school, is batting .287.
