Crespi Gets on Track in Opener, 63-54

Justin Canel won two individual events and ran a leg on the victorious 400-meter relay team, leading Crespi High to a 63-54 victory over Flintridge Prep in a track and field opener Tuesday at Crespi.

Canel won the long jump at 19-3, the high jump at 5-10 and ran third on the relay team that timed 45.6.

Doug Hall of Flintridge Prep won the 800 meters in 2:09, the 1,600 run in 4:46 and the 3,200 run in 10:31.

BOYS’ TENNIS

St. Bonaventure 13, Oxnard 5--The No. 1 doubles team of Scott Hefelfinger and Vic Tiku swept, 6-1, 6-1, 6-2, for the Seraphs (1-0) at Oxnard (0-1).

Crespi 10, Flintridge Prep 8--The No. 2 doubles team of Ray Purwadihardja and Erick Balderrama swept, 6-3, 7-5, 6-3, to help the Celts win at Crespi.

Burbank 10, Agoura 8--Fred Parvinjah and Emil Avanes swept at No. 1 doubles for the Bulldogs, 6-3, 6-3, 6-2, in a nonleague victory at Agoura.

GOLF

Nordhoff 208, Chaminade 215--Jeff Coburn and Troy York of Nordhoff fired three-over-par 38s at Porter Valley Country Club.

Notre Dame 199, Crespi 229--Kevin Coghlan shot two-over-par 37 and Tommy Barber was at 38 for the Knights in a Mission League victory at Lakeside Country Club.

Chatsworth 411, Grant 418--Scott Johnston of Chatsworth and George Wolf of Grant shot six-over-par 78s in a City 5-A League match at Hansen Dam Golf Course.

Simi Valley 408, Royal 441--Mark Modglin shot a three-over-par 71 for the Pioneers in a nonleague victory over a Marmonte League rival at Simi Hills Golf Course.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Harvard-Westlake d. San Clemente, 15-11, 15-13, 15-11--Billy Strickland had 13 kills for Harvard-Westlake at San Clemente.

Saugus d. Lancaster, 15-5, 10-15, 15-6, 15-7--Dave Van Duzee had 42 assists for the Centurions in a victory at Saugus.

Cathedral d. Village Christian, 15-3, 15-12, 13-15, 14-16, 15-6--Casey Heying had 15 kills and 43 digs but the Crusaders lost at Cathedral.

Sylmar d. Belmont, 15-8, 15-7, 15-9--Cesar Chavez had 19 kills for the Spartans (1-0) at Sylmar.
