Orange Coast Women’s Swim Team Loses

The longest community college winning streak in the state came to an end Friday as the Orange Coast women’s swim team lost to Riverside, 175-121, in an Orange Empire Conference meet at Riverside.

The steak ended at 123 consecutive victories over 16 years. The last time Orange Coast lost a women’s meet was February, 1982.

The Tigers (4-0) were aided by 40 points they received from the diving events, which Orange Coast does not participate in. Riverside also won nine of the remaining 14 events.

Gennifer Amthor won the 200 individual medley for Orange Coast in 2:13.88. Amthor also won the 100 butterfly (59.94).

Cynthia Ganda also was a two-event winner for Orange Coast. Ganda won the 50 butterfly (28.07) and the 100 individual medley (1:04.41).

In Orange Empire Conference men’s swimming:

Riverside 126, Orange Coast 109--Gus Fowler won the 200 freestyle (1:48.65) and 200 butterfly (2:00.85), Luke Holms won the 100 freestyle (49.19) and James Comfort won the 200 backstroke (2:08.02) for Orange Coast.

In the Golden West softball tournament:

Golden West 5, Chaffey 0 (5, time limit)--Amy McManus pitched a four-hitter with three strikeouts in a pool-play victory. Monica Monroy had a two-run double that sparked a five-run third inning for the Rustlers (9-3).

Elvie Gonzales pitched a four-hitter as Golden West defeated Mt. San Antonio in another pool-play game, 2-1. Sarah Nunley had an RBI double for the Rustlers.

In Orange Empire Conference golf:

Saddleback 380, Cerritos 407--Bill Bodensteiner was the medalist for Saddleback with a two-over-73 at Rio Hondo. Teammate Nick Ramirez finished two strokes behind Bodensteiner, and Grant Moulden was three back.

David Ybarra led for Cerritos with a 79.

In nonconference tennis:

Saddleback 5, Santa Barbara 4--Tracie Fouriet won 6-1, 6-7, 6-1 and also won in No. 1 doubles, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2, to help clinch the match for the Gauchos (5-1). Santa Barbara falls to 4-2.

In Orange Empire Conference men’s track and field:

Saddleback 80, Fullerton 50, San Bernardino Valley 37--Tracy Smith won three events and Tony Trueba added two for host Saddleback.

Smith won the 110 hurdles (14.3), 100 meters (10.5) and long jump (22 feet). He also finished second in the 200 meters. Trueba won the 800 (1:58.4) and 1,500 (4:04.9).

Fullerton 65, Saddleback 62, San Bernardino Valley 16, MiraCosta 6--Fullerton’s Patty Papadopulos won the 400 (1:03.2), 800 (2:28.5) and 100 hurdles (17.7) for host Saddleback.

In Orange Empire Conference volleyball:

Orange Coast 3, Santa Barbara 1--Josh Richardson had 30 kills for host Orange Coast’s 15-6, 17-16, 13-15, 15-11 victory. The Pirates are 9-1, 5-1 in conference.

Santa Barbara is 5-2 in conference.
