The Glendora boys’ basketball team followed its usual day-before-a-game routine in preparation for tonight’s Division I semifinal against Lakewood Artesia in the Southern California regional of the state tournament.

The Tartans, the Southern Section Division I-A champions, practiced for all of 45 minutes on Wednesday.

“I haven’t seen Artesia play, but from what I hear, if we play great, we’re going to lose by 20,” Glendora Coach Mike LeDuc said. “We just want to play well.”

Anyone who has watched Glendora play this season knows the Tartans (30-1) will do a lot more than just show up at Long Beach City College.

Junior guard Casey Jacobsen leads a team that defeated San Bernardino Pacific for its Southern Section title then beat Rancho Bernardo, 63-59, on Tuesday in the first round of the regional.

Artesia (31-1), the Southern Section I-AA champion, is coming off Tuesday’s 85-62 victory over Pacific. Junior center Jason Kapono scored 21 points and had 14 rebounds against Pacific.

In other marquee boys’ semifinal matchups, Westchester plays Clovis West at Loyola Marymount in Division I, Dominguez plays host to Compton, and Santa Margarita plays host to Redondo Union in Division II, Huntington Beach Ocean View travels to Washington Union, and West Hills Chaminade travels to San Diego University in Division III, Verbum Dei plays host to Lincoln Academy in Division IV and Pacific Hills is the home team against Rolling Hills Prep in a Division V game at Daniel Murphy.

Dominguez’s Tayshaun Prince did not play in the Dons’ victory over Point Loma on Tuesday because of a knee injury. His status is uncertain for the rest of the playoffs.
