In other Century League games:

El Modena 6, Santa Ana Valley 4--Matt Shook (2-1) allowed one hit over five innings for El Modena (4-3, 1-0). Junior center fielder Nick Rupp had two triples, two RBIs and two runs scored for the Vanguards. Host Santa Ana Valley is 4-4, 0-1.

In the Empire League:

Katella 6, Cypress 3--Carlos Pasillas’ two-run homer cleared the 390-foot mark in left field at Boyson Park. His Katella teammate, Mike Martinez, was three for four with three runs scored. Katella is 4-4, 1-0.

Loara 5, No. 7 El Dorado 4--Bryon Kungle hit two home runs, including the eventual game-winner in the bottom of the sixth, to lead Loara (4-3, 1-0). Eddie Joosten (1-1) went the distance for the Saxons, striking out seven.

In the Freeway League:

Buena Park 6, Sunny Hills 3Buena Park scored five runs in the fifth innings to take a 6-3 lead. Freshman Rudy Padilla’s two-run double in the inning gave the Coyotes a two-run lead. Reliever Shane Ellison worked out of bases-loaded jam in both the sixth and seventh innings to earn his fourth save for Buena Park (6-1, 1-0).

Fullerton 4, La Habra 3--Fullerton pitcher Jeff Cody’s sixth inning two-out single just inside the first-base line scored Luke Smude and Caesar Gomez and gave Fullerton a 4-3 lead. Smude also singled twice and Cody earned his third victory of the season.

La Habra’s Shaun Beutner hit a three-run homer for the Highlanders (2-5, 0-1).

Sonora 7, Troy 6 (8)--Erik Estrada had two doubles and also struck out 10 to earn the victory for Sonora (2-5, 1-0). Jacob Boggs had three RBIs and drove in the tying and winning runs.

In the Golden West League:

Ocean View 10, Saddleback 0--Senior Pete Montrenes pitched a no-hitter and just missed a perfect game. Ocean View, however, committed an error in the fifth inning.

Servite 5, Westminster 0--Brian Wolfe pitched a no-hitter for visiting Servite (5-4, 0-1). He struck out 12 and walked one. David Fischer had two RBIs.

In the Olympic League:

Whittier Christian 10, Brethren Christian 6--Whittier Christian (3-3, 1-0) had four hits and scored six runs in the second inning to take an 8-1 lead. Jason Carpenter had four RBIs for the Heralds. Brethren Christian’s Sean Ireland went three for four with two RBIs. Brethren Christian is 3-3, 0-1.

In the Orange League:

Brea Olinda 5, Magnolia 2--Scott Davis (2-0) threw a four-hitter, striking out seven and walking two for visiting Brea Olinda in its league opener. Travis Blood’s two-run single in the fourth gave the Wildcats a 4-1 lead. Mark Becher had two hits for Brea Olinda.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Aliso Niguel 10, Costa Mesa 4--Aliso Niguel scored six runs in the fifth inning, including Jose Morales’ three-run homer and Sean Stutzman’s two-run single. Drew Parkin struggled with his control early but finished with nine strikeouts for the Wolverines.

In the Sea View League:

No. 6 Santa Margarita 7, Corona del Mar 0--Andy Hopper had three hits and three RBIs including a home run for Santa Margarita (4-2, 1-0). Randy Vanderplow struck out seven to earn his third victory of the season. Corona del Mar falls to 3-3, 0-1.

In the South Coast League:

Dana Hills 3, San Clemente 2--Chris Weber scored the game-winner from second base on a mis-played pop fly with two outs in the fourth. Paul Hindman’s two-out double in the third drove in two runs to tie the score for Dana Hills. Sean Fluent pitched a one-hitter and struck out 10 for the Dolphins (6-2, 1-0).

Mater Dei 3, Capistrano Valley 1--Nick Lovato tossed a one-hitter and struck out eight as the Monarchs edged Capistrano Valley. Kris Hernandez drove in the game-winning RBI in the third inning with a sacrifice fly.

In the Sunset League:

Fountain Valley 7, Marina 3--C.J. Wilson pitched a three-hitter for Fountain Valley (5-1, 1-0). Todd Daniels was three for four with two RBIs for the Barons. Marina falls to 2-4, 1-1.
