Morefield Powers Chatsworth

Tom Morefield hit a two-run home run in the first inning and another in the second to help Chatsworth High defeat San Fernando, 13-5, in a Northwest Valley Conference baseball game Tuesday at Chatsworth.

Morefield, who had six runs batted in, helped Chatsworth (8-0, 3-0) build an 11-0 in the second inning. Danny Eisenberg also hit a home run for Chatsworth.

Scott Sellz (2-0) scattered four hits and struck out three in 3 2/3 innings of relief.

Eddie Flores had two hits for San Fernando (3-4, 2-1).

Kennedy 15, Birmingham 1--Tim Arroyo had two hits and scored two runs, and Wes Crown had two hits, including a run-scoring triple, for the Golden Cougars (6-2, 3-0) in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Birmingham.

Rick Hooper had a triple and home run for Birmingham (4-4, 0-3).

Calabasas 2, Nordhoff 0--Matt Jackson pitched a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts for the Coyotes in a Frontier League victory at Calabasas.

Randy Curtis hit a run-scoring single in the first and Marc Wilson hit a leadoff home run in the third for Calabasas (2-6, 1-1).

St. Francis 10, Harvard-Westlake 7--Andy Lopez drove in four runs with three hits, including a three-run home run, for the Golden Knights (5-2, 2-1) in a Mission League victory at Franklin Fields.

Matt Thayer hit a run-scoring triple and a run-scoring single, and Kyle Beswick had three hits and drove in two runs for the Wolverines (3-5, 0-1).

Moorpark 3, Malibu 2--Wes Rasmussen’s two-run double in the seventh inning gave the Musketeers a Frontier League victory at Moorpark.

Rasmussen (1-0) faced one batter in the top of the seventh, inducing Ian Fishburn to ground into a bases-loaded double play to end the inning.

Rasmussen tripled and scored in the first inning.

Taft 5, Granada Hills 1--Jeff Spector (1-1) scattered seven hits, and had two hits and three RBIs for the Toreadors (4-4, 1-2) in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Taft.

Francisco Lopez had two hits and scored two runs for the Toreadors.

Dan Frisbee had two doubles for the Granada Hills.

El Camino Real 7, Cleveland 4--Kurt Birkins pitched a five-hitter and struck out seven for the Conquistadors (4-4, 3-0) in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Cleveland.

Birkins also had two triples, two RBIs and scored two runs.

Woody Cliffords had three hits, including a triple, and scored two runs, and Carlos Gallo had two hits and two RBIs for El Camino Real.

Max Santillan had a single, double and four RBIs for Cleveland (4-3, 0-3).

North Hollywood 10, Chaminade 5--Arnold Vasquez hit a two-run home run and Ismael Rangsiyawong had a two-run single for the Huskies (6-3), who scored five runs in the sixth inning to break a 5-5 tie in a San Fernando Valley Invitational game at North Hollywood.

Chris Martinez hit his seventh home run for Chaminade, which led, 4-0, after one inning.

Crescenta Valley 8, Muir 4--Tim Balke hit a three-run double in the fourth inning to help the Falcons (6-1, 2-0) win a Pacific League game at Muir.

Balke had two hits and Nathan Barber added two hits and two RBIs for the Falcons.

Notre Dame 15, Alemany 5--John Puccinelli, Ryan Stonerock and Alec Moss hit home runs for the Knights (5-2-1, 2-0-1) in a Mission League game at Notre Dame.

Moss’ two-run home run highlighted a seven-run second inning.

Puccinelli and Stonerock hit consecutive home runs in the fifth.

Andy Sutton and Jeff Myers hit home runs for Alemany.

Santa Paula 6, Santa Clara 4--Rudy Navarro drove in two runs for the Cardinals (5-3, 1-1), who held on after leading, 6-0, after six innings of a Frontier League game at Santa Paula.

Fillmore 5, Oak Park 4--Matt Van Why singled to drive in Ryan Lemons, who doubled, with the winning run in the seventh for the Flashes (3-2, 1-0) in the Tri-Valley League game at Fillmore.

Martin Morales had two hits and two RBIs for Fillmore.

Viewpoint 10, Lake Highland 2--Chaney Sheffield (3-0) pitched a two-hitter and had four hits for the Patriots (5-2) in a victory at Lake Highland in Orlando, Fla.

Shane Betts hit a three-run double for Viewpoint.

Valencia 11, Canyon 0--Chris Catlett hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning of a Foothill League game at Canyon that was called after five innings.

Chris Honaker (3-1) allowed three hits and struck out five for Valencia (8-2, 3-0).

Hueneme 5, Rio Mesa 2--Chris Neri allowed six hits and struck out three in a Channel League victory shortened to five innings because of rain at Rio Mesa.

Miguel Bravo had two hits and Robert Avila had a two-run home run in the third for Hueneme (5-2, 1-1).

Paul Ayala had two hits for Rio Mesa (5-3, 1-1).

Montclair Prep 12, Downey Calvary Chapel 2--Derek Smith drove in three runs with three hits, and Tomohiro Kawasumi had a home run and a triple for the Mounties (5-2) at Calvary Chapel (3-5).

Jeff Skobin added three hits scored three runs.

Paraclete 8, L.A. Baptist 1--Jason Brown (3-0) scattered six hits and had a home run for the Spirits (8-0) in the final of the L.A. Baptist tournament.

Saugus 12, Burbank 9--Justin Miller had three doubles and drove in two runs, and the Centurions (3-7, 1-2) scored nine runs in the fourth inning of a Foothill League game at Saugus.
