MIKE SIMPSON

103 pounds

Brethren Christian, So.

It’s hard to imagine how good Simpson will be when he’s a senior. Already a two-time section Division I champion, he won at Masters and placed fourth at the state meet.

112 pounds

Santa Ana, Jr.

Focused and determined, Najera wrestled strong the entire season. He finished as the state runner-up, was third at Masters and won the Division III Southern Section title.

STEVE GARCIA

119 pounds

Brethren Christian, So.

One of the Warriors’ talented sophomores, Garcia came on strong the last part of the season to make an impressive showing at Masters, where he finished sixth, and at state, taking fifth.

LARRY RODRIGUEZ

125 pounds

Brethren Christian, So.

Although not one of the Warriors’ superstars, Rodriguez was nevertheless an important key to their successful season, taking seventh at state and fourth at Masters.

HARVEY GARCIA

130 pounds

Los Amigos, Sr.

In the beginning of the season, Garcia was little known, but he stormed onto the scene the last half of the season to win Division IV and take fourth at Masters.

RICHARD FEISTMAN

135 pounds

Kennedy, Sr.

Although Feistman didn’t place at state, he did advance into the second day of competition. He finished third at Masters and won a Southern Section Division II title.

PAT CADWALLADER

140 pounds

Brethren Christian, Sr.

Cadwallader just missed winning a state title when he lost a heartbreaker to Ralph Lopez of Fresno Clovis West in the final. He won a section Division I title and a Masters championship.

BEN NAKAMURA

145 pounds

Calvary Chapel, Sr.

It appears Nakamura’s transfer last year from Corona Centennial to Calvary Chapel has paid off; he finished third in state, first at section Division I finals and second at Masters.

MARK OLSON

152 pounds

Brea Olinda, Sr.

Olson just missed qualifying for state by one match. But his season was nevertheless a success as he won an Orange League title and finished sixth at section Division I finals.

ARSEN ALEKSANYAN

160 pounds

Calvary Chapel, Sr.

Aleksanyan provided solid wrestling for the Eagles for two years. He finished his high school career with a Division I title, a third-place finish at Masters and fourth at state.

TIM DYE

Anaheim, Sr.

While Dye had a disappointing finish at state, he still made his mark in Orange County wrestling by winning Five Counties in January and the Division I title and finishing third at Masters.

MIKE BIGRIGG

189 pounds

Calvary Chapel, Sr.

Bigrigg scored an upset over Ventura’s Cristobal Gonzalez to win Masters but just missed the final at state when he was eliminated by David Schenk of Anderson in the semifinals.

Calvary Chapel, Sr.

Saul finished second at state, losing to a familiar rival, Phil Alejandrino of Chino. However, his second-place finish sealed Calvary Chapel’s victory, the Eagles’ fifth state title.

ROBERT RICHARDSON

Heavyweight

San Clemente, Sr.

Richardson, a top lineman at San Clemente, won the South Coast League title, placed third at Division I and fifth at Masters. He just missed advancing into the medal round at state.

Calvary Chapel

This wasn’t supposed to be the Eagles’ year. And if it was any other coach, most likely, it wouldn’t have been. But Azevedo found a way to motivate and produce to win his fifth state title.
