Saddleback Finishes 3rd in State Golf Tournament

College of the Desert won the state golf championship comfortably, finishing 17 strokes ahead of runner-up Riverside on Monday at the Hesperia Golf and Country Club.
Saddleback, which won titles in 1994 and ‘96, finished third.
Desert’s Manny Hayes was one-under-par 143 for 36 holes to be the medalist.
Desert finished at 760. Riverside (777) edged Saddleback (778) for second when Matt Speare chipped in from 25 yards on the 18th.
Saddleback’s Tom Larsen, who finished 12th, had rounds of 75 and 79.
