Sheriff’s deputies arrested two juveniles over the weekend for allegedly handing out a Halloween sucker covered with animal feces.

The candy was handed to a girl who was trick-or-treating with her mother in the area of Leatherwood Court and Japonica Place about 6 p.m. Saturday.

The sucker was wrapped in white paper and, later in the evening, the girl handed it to her mother, who unwrapped it and noticed it was covered with feces.

She notified sheriff’s deputies, who went to the house where the girl received the sucker and spoke with several people who identified two juveniles as the ones who had tampered with the candy.

Both juveniles, ages 13 and 14, were arrested and later released to the custody of their parents.

During interviews with the youngsters, authorities say they determined that the tampering was a prank intended for a certain individual, but because the girl was wearing a similar costume, she was given the sucker by mistake.

Sheriff’s deputies determined that the teenagers had not tampered with any other candies.
