Littlerock High claimed a share of its first Golden League football title Friday night with a 26-19 victory over Palmdale at Littlerock.

It wasn’t easy for the Lobos, who rallied from an 11-0 deficit to defeat the two-time defending league champion.

Running back Keith Williams provided the winning touchdown, diving over from the one with 1:45 left to play.

Williams’ score capped Littlerock’s second 13-play, six-minute drive of the half, and Rodney Woods sealed the victory by intercepting a desperation pass for the second consecutive week.

“It’s our turn and I’m proud of these kids,” said Coach Jim Bauer of Littlerock.

Williams, who scored on an eight-yard run in the second quarter, finished with 72 yards rushing in 18 carries for the Lobos (9-0, 4-0 in league play), ranked No. 5 in the region by The Times. Woods added 94 yards in 19 carries.

Marquis Murray had two touchdown runs for Palmdale (5-4, 2-2). His 61-yard run opened the scoring and his 43-yard run in the third quarter gave the Falcons a 19-12 lead. Murray finished with 155 yards rushing in 11 carries.

Quarterback Richard Newton of Littlerock scored his second touchdown of the game, an 11-yard run, to tie the score, 19-19, with 9:47 to play.

Anthony Valentino kicked a 53-yard field goal to give Palmdale an 11-0 first-quarter lead, but his 56-yard kick late in the second quarter was blocked.

During the ensuing scramble, quarterback Johnathan Thompson of Palmdale suffered what was believed to be a broken collarbone. He was replaced by Terry Furlow.
