The Los Alamitos Unified School District Board of Trustees decided last week to continue participating in the state’s class-size reduction program, which keeps lower-grade classes at a ratio of 20 students or fewer per teacher. A state law passed three years ago provides funds to districts that reduce class sizes in grades kindergarten through third. Los Alamitos, which has participated since 1996-97, received $1.8 million last year in state funds, which affected 2,343 students in 124 classrooms, said Assistant Supt. David Hatton.
