Unbeaten Skieresz Paces Arizona to Upset of Stanford
Senior Amy Skieresz of Arizona won the women’s race in the District VIII cross-country championships at Woodward Park in Fresno on Saturday to remain unbeaten this season.
Skieresz, a 1995 graduate of Agoura High, clocked 16:26 over the 5,000-meter course to lead the No. 6-ranked Wildcats to a 78-80 upset of No. 2 Stanford.
Cal State Northridge placed 25th in the women’s standings and 17th in the men’s standings.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
CS Sacramento def. CS Northridge, 13-15, 15-6, 15-8, 15-13--Rebekah Capel had 23 kills, and Carissa Buie and Angela Lewis each had 16 kills for the Hornets in a Big Sky Conference match at Sacramento.
Northridge (11-10, 7-7) led, 14-8, in the first game before the Hornets scored five points to pull within one. Nancy Ma ended the game with a kill for Northridge.
Freshman Laura Szymanski had 18 kills for the Matadors.
