Notre Dame’s Lelles Ready to Test Injured Leg

Senior Kevin Lelles of Notre Dame High is expected to run in the Southern Section cross-country championships at Mt. San Antonio College on Saturday, even though he missed the last two meets because of a stress fracture above his right ankle.
Lelles’ father, Steve, originally said he would not allow Kevin to compete this week unless a doctor could guarantee that his son wouldn’t risk further injury. But he has changed his mind.
“Kevin is just adamant about running,” Steve Lelles said. “His goal all year has been to help his team win the [Southern Section Division IV title] and he thinks he can do that.”
Lelles placed fourth in the 1997 section final and seventh in the state meet.

School swap: Adam Sperling, a pitcher who was expected to be a key contributor for El Camino Real High next season, has transferred to Chatsworth, where he is ineligible to play, according to a Chatsworth official.
Sperling could end up returning to El Camino Real if he wants to play this spring.
