Warren Moon, who turned 42 last week, was benched Monday as the starting quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks and replaced by Jon Kitna.

Kitna, 26, has played in one quarter this season. He will start for the Seahawks against the Oilers Sunday at Seattle.

“Hopefully, he can add some spice to what we’re doing offensively,” said Coach Dennis Erickson, whose team lost Sunday to the Dallas Cowboys, 30-22.

“It’s not all Warren’s fault by any means. It’s a combination of things. Obviously, in this business it’s usually the quarterback or the coach.”

The Seahawks rank 27th in the NFL in total offense and their passing offense is 25th.

Quarterback Tony Banks’ streak of 40 consecutive starts for the St. Louis Rams is in jeopardy.

The quarterback, who sat out most of Sunday’s 24-20 loss to the Carolina Panthers because of a sprained ankle, is doubtful for this week’s game against the Atlanta Falcons. Former UCLA quarterback Steve Bono, a backup most of his career, would get his first start since 1996 if Banks is unable to go.

Team President John Kent Cooke submitted his initial bid to buy the Washington Redskins. Cooke, son of late team owner Jack Kent Cooke, is competing with some billionaires for ownership of the team.

Howard Milstein, owner of 45% of the NHL’s New York Islanders and an unsuccessful bidder this year for the expansion Cleveland Browns, also submitted a joint offer with Washington-area businessman Daniel M. Snyder.

A Baltimore woman has accused Raven wide receiver Michael Jackson of sexual assault, sodomy and false imprisonment.

The unidentified 44-year-old woman alleges in a complaint filed in U.S. District Court a consensual relationship with Jackson last summer deteriorated as he turned abusive and unpredictable.

Jackson, scheduled to appear in court in December to answer the complaint, told Baltimore television station WBAL-TV that he has been advised by his attorney not to comment on the case.

The complaint is not the first for the woman, who has filed at least 10 prior complaints against two other men, alleging similar offenses, the television station reported.
