Thousand Oaks Is Three-Dimensional, Scores 12-8 Victory

Jeff Alderson, Mike Schermer and Scott Wilson were the only goal scorers for Thousand Oaks, but that was all the Lancers needed in a 12-8 nonleague water polo victory over Notre Dame on Wednesday at Thousand Oaks High.

Alderson had five goals, Schermer added four and Wilson scored three for the Lancers, who outscored Notre Dame, 8-5 in the second half.

Jon Horwitz scored three goals for the Knights and Chris Langer added two.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Crescenta Valley def. Alhambra, 15-8, 15-6, 15-0--Tracy Jackson had 15 kills and 10 digs, and Marci English had three of the Falcons’ six aces in a nonleague victory at Alhambra.

Mele Misi and Melinda Moulden each had eight kills for the Falcons (4-3).

Providence def. Burroughs, 15-7, 15-13, 6-15, 15-9--The Pioneers won their third consecutive match in the first meeting between the Burbank schools.

Cathleen Reuter had 15 kills, 14 digs and four aces for Providence (4-2), and Lauren Holt added 10 kills and 11 digs. Setters Kari Vander Borght and Sonia Pelayo combined for 24 assists.

BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Notre Dame 20, St. Francis 41--Kevin Lelles notched his fifth victory in five races for Notre Dame (3-0, 3-0) in a Mission league dual meet, clocking 16:15 on the three-mile course at Crescenta Valley Park.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Buena 15, Oxnard 3--Amy Gates swept her sets at No. 3 singles without losing a game for the Bulldogs in a nonleague victory at Buena.

Heidi Treadwell and Andrea Fennell swept at No. 3 doubles, 6-0, 6-0, 6-1, for the Bulldogs (6-2). Treadwell was called up from the junior varsity for the match.

Yasmin Fisher and Danielle De Smeth, the top two singles players for Buena, each won one set before substitutes from the junior varsity finished their rotations.
