The Seahawks (1-3, 0-1) pulled to within 20-13 with 6:47 left but any momentum gained was quickly killed when the extra point was blocked and returned by Ron Atkins of Valley for a two-point score.

The Monarchs (2-2, 1-0) followed a Harbor fumble with a 27-yard field goal by Fernando Arias to put away a WSC South Division victory.

Arias kicked field goals of 18 and 25 yards.

There was a 15-minute delay early in the second half due to an injury to Valley defensive back Charles Law.

Law was motionless for most of the delay as he was attended to by doctors and was later removed by stretcher. He was X-rayed at Harbor but was not taken to a hospital.

Both teams played sluggishly, combining for 225 yards in penalties. Valley had 16 penalties for 147 yards.

Most of Valley’s offense came in the first half when the Monarchs built a 17-7 lead on two touchdown passes by Travis Winn.

Winn completed six of 12 passes for 74 yards. He threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Justin Collins for Valley’s first score with 7:42 left in the first quarter and added another 19-yard score to Milton Wynn with 14:53 left in the second quarter.

Winn was replaced by Eric Holtfreter after the second scoring pass. Holtfreter completed 15 of 28 passes for 131 yards.

Kevin Carlsen of Valley caught nine passes for 74 yards.
