Los Angeles police continued searching Saturday for a sniper who wounded a passerby, then shot at officers after opening fire from the rooftop of a building in the Westlake district.

Shots were fired at the police officers who arrived at the scene to investigate the shooting Friday evening, but they were not hit.

Specially armed SWAT team officers and police K-9 units were called to the scene, but the gunman fled.

The bullet grazed the arm of a pedestrian, who was treated at the scene for a flesh wound.

Police were called about 6:10 p.m. after someone reported that a man was firing from the building at 8th Street and Parkview Avenue.

The search for the shooter, who was described as a male wearing a white shirt, was called off about 9:40 p.m.

Police resumed the investigation Saturday, but the suspect was still at large.
