A 19-year-old Reseda man pulled over for a seat belt violation was being held Sunday on suspicion of transporting 30 pounds of marijuana for sale, authorities said.

Adolfo Arteaga is expected to also be charged with driving while intoxicated, said Los Angeles Police Officer Celeste Thiel.

Arteaga was stopped Saturday about 5:30 p.m. on Roscoe Boulevard near Orion Avenue for not having his seat belt fastened, Thiel said. His passenger immediately jumped out of the car and ran away, Thiel said.

An officer who looked in Arteaga’s truck noticed a black plastic bag on the floorboard that contained smaller plastic bags filled with “a green, leafy substance resembling marijuana,” Thiel said. An athletic bag in the truck bed contained two similarly packed black plastic bags, Thiel said.

The passenger is still at large, Thiel said. The confiscated substance is being tested, she added.
