Alemany Stuns St. Paul

Mission Hills Alemany High upset Santa Fe Springs St. Paul, 26-17, Friday in a Mission League opener at St. Paul, holding off a second-half rally by the Swordsmen.

St. Paul (7-1) had shut out its last six opponents, earning the top ranking in Southern Section Division III. The Swordsmen had outscored opponents, 314-6.

The Indians (5-3), who had an 18-7 halftime lead, pulled off the shocker behind receiver Derek Goodman, who caught four passes for 96 yards and two touchdowns and also returned an interception for a touchdown.

Alemany tailback De’Andre Scott carried 28 times for 151 yards and a touchdown and quarterback Casey Clausen completed 12 of 21 passes for 137 yards and a touchdown. Clausen also had a pass intercepted.

St. Paul out-gained Alemany in yards, 311-165.

Alemany took a 12-0 lead on a pair of Goodman touchdowns in the first quarter. He scored six minutes into the game when he caught a 34-yard halfback option pass from Deon Scott.

Fifty-two seconds later, Goodman, playing safety, intercepted a St. Paul pass and returned it 46 yards for a touchdown.
