The Atlanta Braves transferred reliever Mark Wohlers’ to the 60-day disabled list before Sunday’s game with the New York Mets, effectively ending his season.

Wohlers, put on the 15-day disabled list Aug. 21 for an “inability to pitch,” isn’t eligible to come off the list until after the start of the World Series. Atlanta transferred him to the 60-day list to make room on the 40-man roster for rookie Marty Malloy.

Wohlers, 28, was 0-1 with eight saves in 27 appearances out of the bullpen with a 10.18 earned-run average. In 20 1/3 innings he gave up 18 hits and 23 runs while walking 33 and striking out 22.

The Seattle Mariners called up their second baseman of the future on Sunday.

Carlos Guillen, acquired by Seattle from Houston July 31 in a trade that sent Randy Johnson to the Astros, was brought up from triple-A Tacoma. Manager Lou Piniella immediately inserted Guillen, 22, into the Mariner lineup.

Guillen hit .228 in 24 games (21 for 92) with one homer and four RBIs in Tacoma after the trade.
