Servite (0-0) vs. No. 4 Esperanza (0-0)
7 P.M. VALENCIA HIGH
It could be argued that Esperanza has the county’s toughest nonleague schedule, but Servite Coach Larry Toner begs to differ. He views tonight’s opener, which will be televised live on Fox Sports West 2, as a necessary evil. “You’ve got to find out what you’re made of so you might as well play against a very well-coached opponent,” Toner said. The Friars, with seven players back, are expected to challenge Tustin for the Golden West League title, but Esperanza may be a bit too much to handle. The Aztecs return 14 key players, including Sunset League player of the year Grant Wagner at quarterback.
