Change for the Better in Moorpark Soccer
Moorpark College, which struggled last soccer season before Coach Frank Parodi was fired, appears to be on the right track with first-year Coach Sean Roche.
Roche, boys’ soccer coach at Buena High and a Cal Lutheran men’s assistant for 16 years, had 58 players try out for his team, which was 1-1 after a 6-1 nonconference victory Tuesday over Cypress.
Roche said he didn’t recruit a specific number of players, but simply spread the word that the team was under new leadership.
“I just let people know that I was there and there would be a new start and that everyone would have a chance,” he said.
Only Jason Leonard and Kevin Bonilla are returnees from last year.
Top newcomers include Sean Miller, a recent graduate of El Camino Real High, and Mustafah Sarwari, a member of The Times’ 1997-98 all-area team and 1998 Simi Valley High graduate.
