Ed Ulloa, who won two Southern Section softball titles at Upland High School, has been named softball coach at Mater Dei.

Ulloa replaced Doug Myers, who resigned in June after five winning seasons at Mater Dei.

Geri Campeau, Mater Dei girls’ athletic director, said Ulloa offers some of the same qualities Myers had, such as his knowledge of the game and his approach to discipline.

Ulloa had a 190-64 record with five Baseline League titles in nine seasons at Upland. The Mater Dei job was appealing in part because it would place him close to his home in Irvine.

“The travel made me realize I’d been traveling too far for too long,” Ulloa said. He also is a freshman football coach at Irvine.
