A daughter of Gone West sold for $1.45 million in Lexington, Ky., smashing the record price for a filly at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale.

Prince Ahmad Salman, owner of The Thoroughbred Corp., purchased the filly and also paid $1.3 million for a colt by Deputy Minister out of Double the Charm.

Only five yearlings have sold for $1 million or more.

Athletes using performance-enhancing drugs at the Sydney Olympics will face criminal fines, but will be jailed only if they are caught trafficking, Australian officials announced.
