Serna Leads Santa Ana Soccer

Tomas Serna scored two goals to help host Santa Ana defeat previously unbeaten San Diego Mesa, 3-1, in a nonconference men’s soccer game.

Serna broke a 1-1 tie with a goal in the 84th minute off an assist from Jose Retiz. Victor Licea scored the other goal for the Dons.

San Diego Mesa is 2-1-1.

In other nonconference games:

Fullerton 3, Long Beach 2--Kenny Takaki scored two goals and Ramiro Robles added one for host Fullerton (1-3-3).

Irvine Valley 7, San Diego 0--Goalkeepers Miljan Soskic and Jerald Morel helped the Lasers (8-0) post their eighth consecutive shutout.

In Orange Empire Conference men’s water polo:

Cypress 23, Santa Ana 12--Robert Fair scored six goals for host Cypress (4-0, 1-0). Sidney Sonnier scored eight goals for Santa Ana (2-2-1, 0-1).

Saddleback 6, Riverside 4--Brian Weathersby scored three goals, including a skip shot from mid-pool with five seconds remaining in the first half, to give host Saddleback a 4-2 lead. Saddleback, ranked fifth in the state, is 5-0, 1-0. Seventh-ranked Riverside is 4-1, 0-1.

In South Coast Conference men’s water polo:

Golden West 18, Fullerton 5--Adriano Marsili scored eight goals for host Golden West (4-0-1, 1-0).

In nonconference women’s volleyball:

Golden West 3, Victor Valley 1--Charnette Fair had eight blocks and Meghan Coolbaugh had seven for the host Rustlers (1-0), who won, 15-0, 15-10, 13-15, 15-1.
