Gauchos Lose Herrity for Season

Sean Herrity, a junior midfielder for UC Santa Barbara who played at Simi Valley High, is out for the season after he suffered a knee injury Sunday.

Herrity, who transferred to Santa Barbara from New Mexico, tore an anterior cruciate ligament in the Gauchos’ loss to Memphis at the Nevada Las Vegas tournament.

Jaime Ambriz, a sophomore at Santa Barbara City College from Rio Mesa High, underwent surgery Tuesday on a broken ankle suffered last week against East Los Angeles College.

Ambriz, a two-time member of The Times’ all-region team who scored 58 goals at Rio Mesa and 24 last season at Santa Barbara, is eligible to take a medical redshirt year and play his sophomore season next year.

The first Run from Obesity run/walk event will take place at 8 a.m. Sunday at San Buenaventura State Beach Park in Ventura.

The race on a flat course over one mile, five kilometers and 10 kilometers will begin at Pierpont Boulevard and San Pedro Street.

Entry fees are $20 for the 10K race, $17 for the 5K and $15 for the one-mile event. Parking is $3.

Tryouts for the 16-and-under team are from 2-3:30 p.m. and 18 and under tryouts are from 4-5:30 p.m.
