Sophomore quarterback Daniel Gonzalez, wide receiver Angel Gonzalez and a defense that recovered two fumbles and returned an interception for a touchdown made certain Grant did not spoil Franklin’s first night home football game.

Angel Gonzalez scored on a 92-yard third-quarter kickoff return and a 14-yard fourth-quarter pass from Daniel Gonzalez (no relation) in the Panthers’ 32-10 victory over the Lancers in a City Section nonconference game Friday.

Alex Rosa set off the first of the evening’s three fireworks displays by intercepting Cliff Francis’ pass and returning it 27 yards for a touchdown on the final play of the first quarter.

Franklin (2-0) increased its lead to 12-0 three minutes, 45 seconds before halftime when Daniel Gonzalez connected with Edwin Carrillo on a 25-yard touchdown pass, five plays after Dominic Hernandez recovered Francis’ fumble on the Panthers’ 37-yard line.

After a halftime performance by Franklin’s tuxedo-clad band and another fireworks display, Grant (1-1) got on the scoreboard on its initial second-half possession on Jesus Perez’s 36-yard field goal. Angel Gonzalez returned the ensuing kickoff 92 yards for a score.

Daniel Gonzalez, son of Coach Armando Gonzalez, completed 13 of 22 passes for 186 yards and two touchdowns.

“My son came through when he had to,” Armando Gonzalez said.

Tevita Manu scored the Lancers’ (1-1) lone touchdown on an 85-yard fourth- quarter kickoff return.
