Golden West Wins Twice in Water Polo Tournament

Andre Pedroin scored four goals and Peter Valovic had three to lead Golden West to a 14-6 victory over Ventura Friday in the second round of the Cuesta men’s water polo tournament in San Luis Obispo.
The Rustlers advance to today’s semifinal round against Saddleback at 11:10 a.m.
In the first round, Adriano Marsili scored eight goals to lead Golden West (6-0) to a 16-12 victory over San Diego Mesa.
In nonconference women’s water polo:
Orange Coast 14, Long Beach City 2--Nerissa Reidenbaugh scored three goals to lead Orange Coast (6-0), ranked second in the state. Duffy Finnegan made six saves and Pia De La Jara made one. Ninth-ranked Long Beach is 3-2.
In nonconference men’s soccer:
Fullerton 2, Citrus 0--Ramiro Robles and Ken Takaki each scored first-half goals to lead visiting Fullerton (2-3-3). Citrus is 3-4-2.
Golden West 2, Cuyamaca 1--Golden West’s Cooper Briscoe broke a 1-1 tie with a goal in the 20th minute. Shane York scored in the first half for the Rustlers (2-1-2).
In nonconference women’s soccer:
Cypress 4, Palomar 1--Lisa Hermen, Tami Askey, Heather Mears and Nicole Terry each scored goals for Cypress (9-0-1). Palomar is 3-1.
In nonconference women’s volleyball:
Cypress 3, Southwestern 1--Jessica Miles had 13 kills and Stacy Clements had 11 to lead Cypress, which won its season opener, 15-7, 15-2, 14-16, 15-4. Southwestern is 1-1.
Fullerton 3, Chaffey 0--Shannon Rosenkranz and Melisa Matherson each had nine kills to lead Fullerton to a 15-6, 15-8, 15-6 victory.
Saddleback 3, Citrus 0--Gina Stivers had 13 kills and Kelly Webb had 12 in the Gauchos’ 15-3, 15-3, 15-6 victory. Richelle Danet led Saddleback (3-0) with 19 assists, and Suzanne Sarkees had 15.
