The owner of the Detroit Red Wings, Detroit Tigers and the Little Caesars pizza empire was hospitalized after a dizzy spell, eight months after undergoing his second heart bypass surgery.
Mike Ilitch, 69, Little Caesars’ founder, was examined and released from William Beaumont Hospital in suburban Royal Oak.

Detroit forward Brent Gilchrist will be sidelined from four to six weeks after successful surgery to repair a hernia. . . . Florida right wing Dino Ciccarelli is out of camp scrimmages for at least a week after spraining his right ankle in practice. . . . Philadelphia Flyer Coach Roger Neilson missed Tuesday night’s 2-2 exhibition tie with the Pittsburgh Penguins because of lower back spasms. . . . Petr Nedved signed a contract to play with the International Hockey League’s Las Vegas Thunder for the 1998-99 season, as he continues a contract dispute with the Pittsburgh Penguins. A clause in Nedved’s contract with Las Vegas enables him to rejoin the NHL if the Penguins re-sign him or trade his rights to another team.
