Funeral services for Gerard Waskiewicz, the pole vault coach at Irvine High who died Saturday in a boating accident, will be held at 9:30 a.m. today at St. Columban Catholic Church in Garden Grove.
The high school is setting up a scholarship fund in Waskiewicz’s name to assist track and field athletes. Donations may be made to: Gerard Waskiewicz Scholarship Fund, Irvine High School Athletics, c/o Rick Curtis, 4321 Walnut Ave., Irvine, 92604.

Paul Hahn has resigned as boys’ golf coach at Corona del Mar High because of commitments as head golf professional at Newport Beach Country Club, Athletic Director Jerry Jelnick said.

Former Angel catcher Bob Boone, recently selected to the Orange County Sports Hall of Fame, will be a speaker at the inaugural El Dorado High School athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony Saturday.
Boone will also accept an inauguration plaque on behalf of his son, Bret, who plays for the Cincinnati Reds and is one of 16 former athletes, coaches and supporters to be honored.
