Raiders’ Patton Sweeps Sprints

Russell Patton won three races for Channel Islands High, but the Raiders lost to Hueneme, 72-55, in a Pacific View League boys’ track and field meet Thursday at Channel Islands.

Patton won the 100 meters in 10.8 seconds, the 200 in 22.2 and the 400 in 51.0.

Teammate Phillip Samuel clocked 43.6 in winning the 300 hurdles and he also won the long jump with a leap of 21-5 for the Raiders (0-2, 0-2 in league meets).

In the girls’ meet, Channel Islands defeated Hueneme, 73-54, behind the Nixon sisters, who each won three events.

Embarly Nixon, a senior, won the 100 in 12.5 seconds, the 200 in 26.0 and the 400 in 1:02.0.

Emerald Nixon, a junior, won the 800 in 2:35.8, the 1,600 in 5:50.0 and the 3,200 in 12:40.0.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Camarillo 12, Crespi 6--No. 1 player Mike Mancini and No. 3 Andrew Gould each swept and the Scorpions (8-4) won eight of nine sets in singles play in a nonleague match at Camarillo.

Crespi (5-6), which played without No. 1 player Stephen Amritraj, who is in Florida to begin play today in the Easter Bowl junior national tournament, picked up three victories from the No. 3 doubles team of Chris McNicoll and Ray Purwadihardja.

Oak Park 14, Bishop Diego 4--The No. 2 doubles team of Brian Guerrero and Richard Williams won three sets and the Eagles (3-6, 2-0) won eight of nine doubles sets in a Tri-Valley League match at Oak Park.

Joey Edelberg did not lose a game in a three-set sweep at No. 1 singles for Oak Park.

Rio Mesa 18, Hueneme 0--Chris Worthington, who usually plays doubles, did not lose a game in three sets at No. 1 singles for the host Spartans (7-1, 2-0) in a Pacific View League match.

BOYS’ GOLF

Nordhoff 377, Ventura 398--Ryan Blatz birdied the 16th and 17th holes to finish with an even-par 72 for host Nordhoff in a nonleague match at Soule Park in Ojai.
