Brea Golf Team Breaks Tournament Record by 4 Shots

Brea Olinda set a tournament record by shooting a two-day total of 12-under-par 348 Wednesday and Thursday to win the Tribute to Youth golf tournament at Desert Princess Country Club in Cathedral City.

The Wildcats, who broke the previous record by four strokes, were led by brothers Alex and Brad Oh. Brad shot 141 (70-71) and Alex shot 143 (70-73). Carmel Robert Louis Stevenson finished a stroke behind Brea. Palos Verdes Peninsula was third at 360 and Esperanza fourth with 366.

In Freeway League girls’ swimming:

Fullerton 74, La Habra 72--Fullerton’s Breeze Alcantara won the 200 (2:24.11) and 500 freestyles (6:21.47) and teammate Alicea Levine finished first in the 200 individual medley (2:38.41) and 100 butterfly (1:16.58).

In nonleague girls’ swimming:

El Toro 122, Trabuco Hills 45--Kaitlin Sandeno, a sophomore at El Toro who was named the top female swimmer at Spring Nationals last week, recorded a county-best in the 500-yard freestyle (4:56.94). The time is almost 10 seconds faster than the previous best by Irvine’s Romina Mosquera. Sandeno also swam a county-best in the 200 IM (2:06.22).

In Empire League boys’ track and field:

Cypress 71, Kennedy 56--Clarence Moore went a county-leading 45-9 1/4 in the triple jump for Cypress (5-0, 3-0).

In the Freeway League:

Sonora 74, Fullerton 52--Martin Miranda won the 110 hurdles in 16.6 and the 300 hurdles in 45.3 for Fullerton (0-5, 0-2). David Fells won the shot put (41-6 1/2) and the discus (120-3) for the Indians.

In Freeway League girls’ track and field:

Sonora 69, Fullerton 58--Teresa Chin won the 100-yard dash in 12 seconds and the 200 meters in 27.1 for Fullerton (0-5, 0-2).
