Community Services officials said they will survey and repair the city’s aging parks over the next few years. Later this month, they will present the City Council with a tentative master plan for parks, said Gary Wann, director of community and library services. Wann described the department’s seven-year capital improvement plans last week as part of the city’s budget process.

Plans call for replacing the old lights and tot lot at Hart Park, renovating restrooms at El Modena and La Veta parks, giving make-overs to Eisenhower and Shaffer parks, and lighting the athletic fields at El Modena High School. Neighbors who might be affected by new lighting or other renovations will be informed well ahead of time, Wann said.

The community and library services department plans to spend $36.6 million on these and other projects over the next seven years, with most of them being completed by 2003.
