Taylor Will Join Staff at Golden West

Scott Taylor will resign as boys’ water polo coach at Santa Margarita High to become a member of the men’s water polo program at Golden West College, Santa Margarita Athletic Director Rich Schaaf said Monday.

Golden West Athletic Director Tom Hermstad said Taylor’s exact role with the Rustlers has yet to be decided.

Taylor will remain the girls’ water polo coach at Santa Margarita, Schaaf said.

Nelson Herrera, who has coached the Canyon High girls’ basketball team the last six seasons, has resigned, Canyon Athletic Director Steve Anderson said.

Canyon finished last season with a 24-5 record and advanced to the semifinals of Division II-AA playoffs, where they were beaten by Brea Olinda.

Anderson said Herrera left to pursue his education.
