Three County Players at All-Star Game

Brea Olinda teammates Lindsey Davidson and Kate Ides, who helped the Ladycat basketball team to its 11th consecutive Southern Section title and seventh state championship, and Esperanza’s Allison Gerber are scheduled to participate in today’s Double Pump Classic all-star senior basketball doubleheader at Cal State Dominguez Hills.

The girls’ game begins at 5 p.m., followed by the boys’ game at approximately 7 p.m. General admission is $10.

Former Bullfrog defenseman Joe Cook of Santa Margarita has been selected to coach the USA Hockey InLine National Team, which will compete in the International Ice Hockey Federation In-Line Hockey Spring Cup, June 2-6 in Helsinki.

Cook, who retired from the Bullfrogs midway through the 1997 season, was captain of the U.S. national team that won gold medals in the IIHF World In-Line Championship in 1997 and 1998 and a silver medal last year.

The Zodiac will play Omar E Iran, a youth soccer team of Iranian Americans from California, in an all-star soccer team in an exhibition game at 5 p.m. Sunday at Encino Birmingham High.

Orange Coast College will host the 34th annual Newport Rowing Regatta Sunday on North Lido Channel.

Among the crews attempting to keep OCC from winning its 14th consecutive P.A. Palmer Cup are those from Chapman, UC Irvine, Long Beach State, UCLA and Loyola Marymount.

Racing begins at 8 a.m.
