Dickerson Pitches a Five-Hitter

Joe Dickerson pitched a five-hitter with seven strikeouts as Anaheim Hills West defeated New Mexico, 3-1, in an elimination game Monday at the Little League Western Regional in San Bernardino.

The victory was the third in a row for Anaheim Hills, which must beat Northern California champion Sacramento twice to reach the regional final Thursday.

The teams play at 8 tonight and Wednesday if necessary.

Anaheim Hills West was coming off a 13-2 victory over Mill Creek, Wash., in which it had 16 hits, including five home runs.

The Southern California champions had only three hits but scored three times in the third inning Monday.

Matt Sliemers had a two-run double and Brandon Aponte added an a run-scoring single against New Mexico.

New Mexico’s run came in the sixth inning on Zack Arnett’s RBI single.

Robbie Platt pitched a three-hitter with no walks for New Mexico.

The winner of the Western Regional advances to the Little League World Series, which starts Aug. 22 in Williamsport, Pa.
