SOCCER : San Diego Has No Trouble With Zodiac

Share

Mauricio Alegre scored two goals to help the Western Conference-leading San Diego Flash defeat the Zodiac, 4-0, in an A-League soccer game Saturday in front of about 3,000 at San Diego Mesa College.

The Zodiac beat the Flash in overtime, 2-1, Friday at Santa Ana Stadium, but Orange County’s defense was not nearly as stingy Saturday.

Alegre scored his first goal in the 21st minute, then Chugger Adair scored on a header in the 42nd minute, deflecting a shot from Carlos Farias to give the Flash (20-8) a 2-0 lead. The Zodiac (16-11) managed only seven shots on goal and gave up 18.

Alegre scored his second goal in the 79th minute off an assist from Mugurel Dumitru. Dumitru finished the scoring with a goal off an assist from Jerome Watson in the 85th minute. It was the ninth goal of the season for Dumitru.

Zodiac goalie Mike Littman made six saves. But as was the case Friday, Orange County played nearly half the game a man down.

Saturday, P.J. Brown received a red card for tripping in the 54th minute with Orange County trailing, 2-0. In Friday’s overtime victory, Zodiac defender Martin Vasquez was ejected in the 40th minute.

The Zodiac finishes the regular season Saturday at El Paso.
