The America East Conference is making an unorthodox move to accommodate Tamir Goodman, an orthodox Jew. The conference is asking its schools to try and structure their 2000-2001 basketball schedules around the Towson University recruit, whose religious beliefs keep him from playing on the Jewish Sabbath, which lasts from sundown on Friday to sundown on Saturday. America East Commissioner Chris Monasch is working on the conference’s 2000-2001 schedule, which will not be complete until September. . . . University of New Mexico men’s basketball coach Fran Fraschilla finally signed a five-year contract eight months after his arrival in Albuquerque, which will pay him a base salary of $350,000.
