Forestville El Molino upset top-ranked and defending champion Torrance Bishop Montgomery, 15-10, 15-8, 15-13, to win the Division III girls’ volleyball championship at Cypres College.
Nicole Oehlman, a 5-foot-10 setter, had 40 assists and four kills to lead El Molino (21-9), which won its first state title in its fourth appearance in the finals.
Trinia Cuceo, a 6-2 middle blocker, had 15 kills and eight blocks and Christina Green had 16 kills for the Lions, who won the first game then rallied from an 8-4 deficit in Game 2 to score the final 11 points and seize control.
“Everyone kept telling me how unbelievable Bishop Montgomery was,” El Molino Coach Edward Grassi said. “We got down early in the first game but we fought back and we kept fighting.”
Katie Olsovsky, a 6-3 outside hitter who has committed to USC, had 16 kills and Cerina Pele added 15 for Bishop Montgomery (28-2).
