GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Not only will Brea Olinda, Orange County’s top-ranked girls’ basketball team, be holding court this week, but so will Harbor City Narbonne, ranked No. 1 nationally in some publications.

Palos Verdes Peninsula, the defending Southern Section Division I-AA champion, is likely to face Narbonne on Tuesday in the second round of the Ladycat Classic at Brea, and Foothill--runner-up to Brea for the Division II-AA title last year--is likely to meet Hanford in a second-round game Wednesday.

Hanford is the defending Central Section Division I champion. The semifinals of that bracket will be Thursday, right after Brea is scheduled to face Moreno Valley, defending Division I-A champion. Of course, an upset could change everything.

The finals are at 8 p.m. Saturday.

The finals of the South Coast Classic take place Saturday at University High, but Tuesday brings together a matchup of top 10-caliber teams, Esperanza vs. El Toro at 3:30 p.m. El Toro opened its season with a 105-22 victory over Riverside Rubidoux as Giuliana Mendiola scored 40 points, a season high in the county.
