State Mark for Rushing Could Fall to Marshall

Jermaine Marshall of Kilpatrick is 58 yards away from setting the state season rushing mark.

Marshall, a senior, has rushed for 3,466 yards to lead the Mustangs (9-4) to their second consecutive appearance against Alpha League rival Paraclete (10-3) in the Southern Section Division XII final Saturday night at Antelope Valley College.

The record of 3,523 yards was set in 11 games by David Dotson of Moreno Valley Valley View in 1991.

Marshall also is close to the state mark of 59 touchdowns, held by DeShaun Foster of Tustin. He has 54.

In Kilpatrick’s first meeting with Paraclete this season, a 36-20 loss, Marshall rushed for 191 yards and three touchdowns in 27 carries.

Paraclete also defeated Kilpatrick, 25-14, last season in the division final.

Tailback Rodney Woods of Littlerock will visit Washington State this weekend and he has recruiting trips planned next month to Nebraska and Colorado State.

Woods rushed for 1,510 yards and 16 touchdowns this season and finished his career with 2,885 yards and 30 touchdowns. He also is considered an excellent defensive back.
