Los Alamitos Overpowers Cabrillo

Ken Carter had 18 points and 15 rebounds as second-ranked Los Alamitos defeated Long Beach Cabrillo, 73-45, in a Los Alamitos boys’ basketball tournament pool-play game Tuesday.

The Griffins (5-0) led by only six points at the end the half, but came back in the second half to outscore Cabrillo, 37-19. Ryan Rakusin had eight points and 12 rebounds for Los Alamitos.

At the El Dorado Gary Raya tournament:

Aliso Niguel 71, Orange 25--Brandon Sievers scored 17 points, including nine on three-pointers, Zach Zanolli had 12 and Dino Lamela 11 for Aliso Niguel (4-2).

At the Fullerton Tribe tournament:

Magnolia 63, Kennedy 51--Geoffrey Clayton scored 24 points and Stia Asoau added 13 to lead host Magnolia (4-1).

Robert Reyes scored 15 points for Kennedy (1-4).

At the La Quinta tournament:

Corona del Mar 52, Buena Park 45--Brooks Morris scored 16 points, including two three-pointers, for host Corona del Mar (3-0) in pool play. Teammate Alec Hanson added 14 more for the Sea Kings. DeAndre Gibson was the high scorer with 16 points for Buena Park (3-2).

At the Tournament of Champions:

Mater Dei 85, Compton 64--Steve Scoggin scored 16 points and went seven for seven in free throws for No. 1-ranked Mater Dei (2-0). Teammate Christian McGuigan added 10 points, including two three-pointers. Jamal Sampson was the Monarchs’ rebound leader with 10 and had eight assists.

Ocean View 67, Redlands 50--Ryan Westbrook had 10 assists and nine points and Jay Bell, with 15 points, had 11 rebounds. Ocean View (3-0) will play Fontana Miller in the quarterfinals tonight at 7 p.m.

In nonleague games:

Cypress 89, El Modena 60--Devin Patrick scored nine of his 28 points in the opening quarter as Cypress took a 28-8 lead. Matt Reid contributed 17 points and Justin Yun had 15 for the Centurions (3-1).

Fountain Valley 45, Tustin 30--Junior Tucker Fendon scored 12 points, grabbed seven rebounds and made five steals to lead host Fountain Valley (3-0).

Heritage Christian 80, St. Margaret’s 59--Matt Winter was the game’s high scorer with 33 points, including three three-pointers, for Heritage Christian (2-3). Todd Warner added 12 points, all three-point shots, for the Patriots. Crandall Kermott scored 14 points for host St. Margaret’s (0-2).

In nonleague boys’ soccer:

Capistrano Valley Christian 4, Temecula Linfield 0--Junior Justin Hui scored two goals to lead host Capistrano Valley Christian (3-0).

Pacifica 1, Westminster 0--Derek Crocker scored for host Pacifica (3-1) on a penalty kick in the 75th minute. Westminster dropped to 4-2.

In nonleague girls’ soccer:

Brea Olinda 1, Sonora 0--Allison Kueny scored the only goal of the game for host Brea Olinda (1-4), and goalie Kim Becher had six saves for the Wildcats. Sonora dropped to 2-2 overall.

El Dorado 2, Canyon 1--Venessa Chanez, assisted by Sadye Reish, scored the winner at the 68-minute mark. Leah Dawson of Canyon (3-2) scored the game’s first goal at the start of the second half, but Darci Gwartz tied the score in the 55th minute.

El Toro 3, Foothill 1--After Lindsay Chappell’s goal early in the first half, teammate Nicole Imech scored what was the winner in the 39th minute. Jenae Welch capped the game with a goal in the second half. April Pettigrew had two assists for the Chargers (3-0).

Los Alamitos 3, South Torrance 1--Lisa Mireles scored her fourth and fifth goals of the season for host Los Alamitos (3-0). Mireles kicked in her first goal of the game one minute after Nicole Madonia scored the Griffins’ first goal in the 27th minute.

No. 9 Marina 3, Cypress 0--Sophomore Paige Morgan scored two goals and freshman Erin Yznaga added one to lead host Marina (3-1). Cypress is 3-1-1.

Ocean View 1, Long Beach Poly 1--Iris Ma scored the only goal for Ocean View (1-2-3). Kaylin Olivas made 11 saves for the Seahawks.

No. 3 Santa Margarita 4, Irvine 1--Alix Cohen, Brittany Meeks, Katie Rivera and Liz Bartlett scored goals to lead visiting Santa Margarita (2-0).

St. Margaret’s 2, Orange Lutheran 1--Annika Nagy and Ashley Werk scored first-half goals for St. Margaret’s (3-1). Nicole Johnson scored for Orange Lutheran (1-1) in the second half.

No. 2 Woodbridge 3, Corona del Mar 1--Laura Hileary, Janelle Loudat and Emmie Dukolil scored for Woodbridge (2-0).
