Owens’ 26 Points Lead Laguna Hills

Shannon Owens scored 26 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Laguna Hills (5-0) over sixth-ranked El Toro, 67-55, in the semifinals of the South Coast girls’ basketball tournament at University.

Megan Aaker scored 20 points, hitting 16 of 16 free throws, for the Hawks. Laguna Hills plays San Clemente for the title tonight at 7:30 p.m.

In the other South Coast tournament semifinal:

No. 7 San Clemente 62, Vista 55--Whitney Jones had 15 points and 11 rebounds and Kimberly Noble had 13 points and 10 rebounds for San Clemente (3-0). The score was tied, 50-50, in the fourth, but San Clemente pulled away with help from Jones, who had eight points in the final quarter.

In the Brea Olinda tournament:

No. 4 Foothill 75, Canyon Springs 40--Kristen Mann scored 23 points to lead Foothill, which went on a 22-5 run to start the game. Foothill plays Crenshaw today at 11 a.m. in a consolation game.

In the Claremont Webb tournament:

Pomona Catholic 55, St. Margaret’s 52 (OT)--Monique Kettler scored 18 points, grabbed 16 rebounds and blocked five shots, but fouled out and did not play in overtime for St. Margaret’s (1-4).

In the Downey Calvary Chapel tournament:

Whittier Christian 37, Laguna Beach 29--Allison Holland scored 12 points, had 14 rebounds and five steals to lead host Whittier Christian (4-5) in the consolation game. Lindsey Schiomi had 11 points for the Heralds.

In the Fairmont Small Schools tournament:

Fairmont 45, Arcadia Rio Hondo 38--Freshman Sonia Hilson scored 18 points, Beth Ann Costanzo grabbed eight rebounds and Shari Tanizawa had five steals and five assists to lead Fairmont (4-2) in the consolation game.

In the Gary Raya tournament:

No. 8 Rosary 71, Downey 31--Maggie Barnett had 19 points and seven assists and Dana Kenney scored 14 points, including four three-pointers, to lead visiting Rosary (4-0). The Royals play El Dorado today at 6 p.m. for the championship.

Estancia 51, Corona 48 (OT)--Lisa Hirata and Zuyin Barrera each hit a three-pointer in overtime and Lauren Cassity scored 13 points to lead host Estancia (3-1) in the consolation game. Xochitl Byfield added 12 points for the Eagles.

In the Troy tournament:

Capistrano Valley 51, Corona del Mar 41--Nicki Howard scored 11 of her 25 points in the fourth quarter and made four three-pointers to lead Capistrano Valley to a third-place finish. Lindsey Peloza added 11 points and seven assists for the Cougars (5-3).

Loara 30, Kennedy 29--Freshman Mina Yamazaki scored a three-pointer with no time on the clock to win it for host Loara (7-2). Vivi Mai led the Saxons with 13 points. Yamazaki also had eight rebounds in the fifth-place game.

No. 3 Troy 69, Huntington Beach 34--Troy jumped out to a 16-0 first-quarter lead on the way to the title. Tournament MVP Veronica Johns-Richardson scored 22 points for the Warriors (5-0).
